February 26-March 10 Study Program in Israel on "The Life and Land of Jesus."
PBT partners with Christian Travel Study Programs CTSP) again to offer a unique twelve-day “The Life and Land of Jesus” Study Program in Israel, February 20-March 3, 2012. Dr. Randall Smith of CTSP, who has lived in Israel for over 20 years and has advanced degrees in Archaeology and Comparative Religions (emphasis on Rabbinic Judaism), with be team-teaching this program along with Doug Greenwold, PBT’s Senior Teaching Fellow. We’ve customized this program to not only visit the usual sites, e.g. Bethlehem, Nazareth, Capernaum, but many other rich teaching sites as well.
Some of the distinctives of this study program approach include: · An integrated, thematic,contextual approach with a devotional emphasis. · It is a study program, not a tourist trip. · Four star hotels · A team teaching approach with two teachers of similar visions,compatible gifts and complimentary contextual perspectives – a true stereo learning experience! · An ideal time - the end of February/early March can offer ideal conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean. Temperatures are usually in the 50‘s - 70‘s depending on the elevation. Everything is green from the winter rains and the air quality is excellent, all of which makes for pleasant walking and great photography. The anticipated all-inclusive cost of the 201 Study Program is $4495 per person (double occupancy). A land-only option is also available for $3295 per person. May 15, 2007...Sunday Morning Message Downloads Available
This past March, Preserving Bible Times gave its “Bible Alive” seminar at churches in Southern California. One of those churches, Faith Community Church of San Diego, asked our Executive Director and Teaching Fellow Doug Greenwold to bring the Sunday morning messages both before and after that seminar weekend. Both of those messages can now be heard on the church's website. If you ever wondered what a passage looks like after all the contextual pieces get woven back together to recreate the Middle Eastern understanding of a text, just go to www.faithsandiego.org/media/ and click on “Show all Messages.” Look for the 3/18/2007 message “Delivering A Legion: The Difference Context Makes” (from Luke 8) and the 3/25/2007 message “The Call of Levi: The Difference Context Makes" (from Luke 5).
May 7, 2007...New Third Edition of "Exploring Bible Times: The Gospels in Context" Available
This 212-page seminal work, now in a newly issued third edition, is the result of Dr. James Martin's twenty years of researching primary source materials in the Middle East. March 2006 - Preserving Bible Times announced the availability of over 300 of its images from its Israel and Museum Archives can now be found in the the new NIV Archaeology Study Bible publishing by Zondervan in partnership with Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. This 2300 page full color Bible is a comprehensive study tool that highlights the archaeological, historical and cultural background of the Bible. Preserving Bible Times is pleased that it was selected by Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary to provide the majority of photographic images for this Bible, including a large selection of biblical artifact images from the world's great museums.
February 2006 - PBT was invited to present its unqiue framework "The Five Story Lines of Scripture" to the 700 attendees of Community Bible Study's 2006 Teaching Directors Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The presentation was made by Doug Greenwold, PBT's Executive Director and Senior Teaching Fellow, on Thursday evening, February 9. A DVD of that 75-minute presentation is now available.
December 2005 - Preserving Bible Times announced the availability of " Making Disciples Jesus' Way: Wisdom We Have Missed." This new book by PBT's Senior Teaching Fellow, Doug Greenwold, is a book for disciples and discipling practioniers. Its purpose is to challenge and provoke our contemporary Western discipleship and spiritual formation paradigms by providing the contextual backdrop of what it meant to “make disciples” in the Gospels. Then it asks: What are we doing, why are we doing it that way, and what fruit are we getting (or not getting)? The thesis of the book is that when we reconnect with the “make disciples” contextual presuppositions in the Gospels, we can more clearly see the “missing ingredients” in discipleship today.
